Cognitive Assessments

Moore Psychology offers cognitive assessments to answer a range of referral questions, including giftedness and intellectual disability. I assess people from the ages of 6 years through to 90 years and 11 months, using a variety of cognitive and academic measures approved for telepsychology use by their respective publishers. The specific assessment instrument is selected based on the client's age and referral question.

Intellectual Disability Assessments

My process for intellectual disability assessments follows a comprehensive and dynamic approach, gathering information across cognitive skills, adaptive abilities, and developmental history.

Assessment Process

Intellectual disability assessments are completed over multiple stages and may include:

Clinical interview with the client (and parents/caregivers where relevant), conducted via telepsychology
Standardised cognitive assessment, delivered via Coviu using Pearson's Q-interactive digital stimulus books for Wechsler measures
Assessment of adaptive functioning across conceptual, social, and practical domains
Review of developmental history, school reports, and previous assessments where available
Integration of assessment findings and preparation of a comprehensive written report
A feedback session to discuss results and recommendations

Not every assessment requires all components. The assessment process is tailored to the individual's needs and referral question.

Giftedness Assessments

Identifying giftedness is not as simple as measuring a single IQ score — a range of information is collected and considered together.

Assessment Process

Giftedness assessments may include:

Background information gathering and review of previous reports where available

If a person has had a previous cognitive assessment, please share this information beforehand. This helps confirm the previous assessment wasn't conducted too recently, and allows for meaningful comparison between past and current results.

It's best if clients and parents do not "read up" on the assessment materials beforehand — the most accurate results come from engaging with the testing materials for the first time in session.

Giftedness sometimes occurs alongside dyslexia, dysgraphia, autistic neurotype, and other forms of neurodivergence. If you would like an assessment that addresses multiple questions at once, this can be discussed and arranged.

Costs & Payment

Giftedness assessment components — including clinical interviewing, cognitive assessment, background information gathering, report writing, and feedback — are charged at our hourly rate. Assessments vary in cost depending on complexity and your specific referral question.
