Autism Affirmation Assessments

Autism Affirmation Process

At Moore Psychology, our autism affirmation process is a dynamic and individualised assessment approach. This comprehensive method includes:

  • Taking a developmental history

  • Exploring specific autistic experiences in communication, social interactions, and sensory needs

  • Reviewing previous assessments and documentation

  • Observing and interacting with the client

Additional assessment measures can be incorporated as needed. These may include adaptive behavior assessments and gathering information (with the client's consent) from parents, family, friends, and/or schools. All collected information is compared against the DSM-5-TR criteria and discussed with the client.

Upon completion, if a person is affirmed as being autistic, clients can submit an application to the NDIS to determine eligibility for relevant funding and support. Please note that there is no guarantee of NDIS or other external funding.

Professional Background

My professional experience includes working as a developmental educator in the school inclusion program for Autism SA (2009-2010) and completing the Autism SA diagnostician training process in 2017.

I have developed an affirming autism criteria inspired by the work of Matt Lowry, which I use alongside the DSM-5-TR criteria in my diagnostic reports.

Assessment Costs

The costs associated with an autism assessment at our practice vary depending on the specific queries a client wishes to address. For instance, some clients may request a brief report confirming the assessment results, while others may prefer a comprehensive report.

  • Assessment costs start at $2,000.

  • Payment of video sessions is required the week of service.

  • Asynchronous elements of the assessment process are billed as they occur.

  • Full payment is required prior to the release of the report to clients.

Currently, there are no Medicare reimbursements for people aged 25 and over. However, if you are seeking an autism assessment for a person under the age of 25, relevant Medicare rebates may be available with a valid referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
